Jenny Rissveds qualifies with a big effort for the Olympic games in Rio and signs for another two years with Scott-Odlo MTB Racing Team.
Olympic games are a dream for every athlete. For Jenny, coming from Sweden, a small MTB country, her spot was far away from being secured. Only 30 female riders will lign up at this year's Olympics. The top 17 nations in the world ranking get at least one spot. At the beginning of 2016 Sweden was only ranked 22nd. Why? Jenny was pretty much the only one getting world ranking points. Jenny, still U23, moved into the elite category in order to gain more points. With 3 victories, a second place at the U23 European championship, a 9th place at the world cup in Cairns and especially her 2nd place finish at the World Cup in Albstadt, Sweden moved into 16th position in the nation's ranking securing a well deserved spot. It was a huge effort, but eventually payed off. This week the Swedish Olympic federation nominated Jenny Rissveds as the only Swedish mountain biker for the Olympics in Rio.
When she speaks about her current situation the relief is evident: "For this whole time during the qualifying period the tension was so high and the pressure enormous. I had a dream and was doing everything I could to make this happen. But I had to rely on other circumstances as well. The SCOTT-Odlo team was very supportive making this happen."
Earlier in the year the U23 world cup champion has renewed her contract until 2018. After riding very successfully for the SCOTT-Odlo team for the past three season this was the SCOTT-Odlo team manager Thomas Frischknecht has only good things to say when talking about this girl on the team. "She is awesome to work with and having her around is extremely positive for our team. As good as she is on the bike, she also performs well off the bike. Her professional attitude and her strong will power allowed her to improve even more from last year. Sometimes we forget she is only 22 years of age. I have no doubt that the future is hers!"
